Polar ice rugosa rose

Polar Ice rugosa rose (Rosa rugosa ‘Polar Ice’) brings cool, luminous blooms and ironclad durability to tough sites. Large, single to semi‑double white flowers with golden stamens open in waves from late spring to frost, carrying that classic rugosa clove‑citrus perfume. Thick, deeply wrinkled foliage shrugs off salt spray, wind, drought, and common rose diseases, making this an easy, low‑spray choice for coastal and northern gardens. Expect a dense, thorny, suckering shrub 4–6 ft tall and wide; superb as an informal hedge or a fragrant, wildlife‑friendly screen. Plant in full sun and well‑drained soil—sandy or lean soils are welcome. Water to establish, then sparingly. Feed lightly in early spring; over‑rich soils can soften growth. Prune in late winter to remove dead wood and one or two oldest canes, preserving the plant’s natural form. Deadhead for continuous bloom, or skip it to enjoy abundant orange‑red hips that feed birds and add winter color. Hardy to at least USDA Zone 3. Space 4–6 ft apart; pair with grasses, catmint, and sea holly.
